  • University of California, Santa Cruz
  • BA, Earth Sciences, 1995

Current and Previous Certifications

  • California Registered Geophysicist #1051
  • OSHA 40-Hr Hazwoper

Relevant Experience:

Nuclear Power Plant site studies 2006-2007 – Mr. Carter has participated in numerous geophysical studies as part of various geotechnical site characterization programs.  His specific expertise is in borehole geophysical logging, including seismic velocity measurements, E-logging, borehole televiewer (both optical and acoustic), Natural Gamma, Caliper and others.

Probex Offshore Exploration  Was project geophysicist for obtaining high resolution borehole seismic velocity profiles in deep water in the Bay of Campeche, Mexico, during the Spring of 2006.  The purpose of the project was site characterization studies for possible future siting of offshore oil exploration and production structures for Pemex, Mexico’s oil company.

GEOVision Geophysical Services  Staff and then Project Geophysicist since July 2004.  Has been responsible for numerous projects including large utility locating and mapping projects, environmental work including UST searches, seismic rippability studies, locating abandoned oil wells, and resistivity profiles. Has processed EM and Magnetic data using Oasis Montaj, Surfer, Dat61, Dat31, and magloc as well as SIP and ViewSeis for processing seismic refraction. Most recently has become highly trained in OYO P-S Suspension logging.

Spectrum Geophysics & Gasch & Associates, Sacramento   Staff Geophysicist from Dec 1997 to July 2004.  Acquired seismic reflection and refraction data as well as dipole-dipole resistivity data for hydrogeologic and depth to bedrock investigations.  Managed utility location and UST searches in which EM (electromagnetic), Magnetic, and GPR were used as primary geophysical methods.  Logged cuttings from mud and air rotary drill rigs. Worked mainly on year-long groundwater study in which all available city drilling logs, wireline logs, resistivity pseudosections, and nine miles of seismic data were used to determine the extent of Sacramento’s aquifer.  Also worked on projects in which water bearing fractures and tunnels were located using resistivity and self potential.

GEOVision Geophysical Services, Inc.

Mr. Carter is a Registered Geophysicist in the State of California and a Sr. Project Geophysicist at GEOVision Geophysical Services.  Mr. Carter has spent more than 10 years working in the field of geophysical data acquisition/processing/interpretation and report writing.  He has extensive practical and technical experience conducting a wide variety of geophysical investigations, including seismic refraction and reflection, magnetic, electrical resistivity, electromagnetic, ground penetrating radar, and borehole logging investigations.
